I read that! The first think my husband said to me was 'see what did I tell you!!'

I know - I'm saying I didn't know it wasn't treatable if  a few days has passed 

I guess if you think you've been bitten or scratched by an animal abroad , you must get treatment straight away .

Thing is you might not be in a position to get treated within a few days

Not impossible to contact rabies in the UK. Bats would be the most likely carriers

I have been guilty of stroking a cat abroad and I probably shouldn't have though.  I would never touch a dog.  I remember being in an historical site in Sri Lanka and a monkey was gearing itself up to jump on me.  Luckily I dodged out of the way.  My fault for talking gently to it - it probably thought I was a nice person and it could land on my shoulder.  I had rabies jabs when I climbed Kilimanjaro.  They are not cheap and I don't think you can get them on the NHS (you couldn't then, anyway)

I also remember being in West Africa somewhere and I saw a dog running down the road.  Every now and again it stopped, shook it's head and threw up.  I remember thinking it might have had rabies. That put me off stroking dogs in certain countries for life.

Unlucky woman, I´ve been to Morocco several times, and all I ever see are dozens of cats, I´ve yet to see a dog!

I will always stroke a cat anywhere. I'm not keen on dogs, so will avoid them. The monkeys in Gibraltar worried me. I don't want one climbing on my head.
