God that was a humid night last night! Even with fans on etc I was soooo hot and uncomfy. It was 32 degrees here yesterday, really hot - today is meant to be a more comfortable 26.  (Shall I start an AB weather channel?? 🤣🤣🤣)

I saw a brief clip on TV lastnight about maggots in this weather in your food waste etc etc.... and if you have those small food waste bins that the bin men empty(I do) then to pour a little boiling water into them to kill them. Well I've always done that, but my MIL  in her new house doesn't have a food waste bin anymore - she is meant to just tip all food waste into her big 'general waste' bin, which is only emptied every fortnight, which I think is mad! At least ours is every week. God knows what the inside of her bin will be like after 2 weeks of this heat!!

Nothing major planned for today - have done the important jobs, so a fairly leisurely day for a change. I feel a sunlounger and a book calling for an hour later on 😁

Have a brilliant day everyone, and enjoy it whatever you do x

I don't usually get up this early, but I'm working at Oxfam today.

I don't have a food bin.  I have four bins in the house.  I have to put my rubbish in a big skip across the road.  I live in the city centre and we have no access to any outdoor space.

Have a good day Smowball, and anyone else who posts.

Morning all. We dont have a food waste bin and had the problem of maggots a few years ago. We now double wrap food waste but its counter productive in that we use more plastic. Our general bin is emptied fortnightly so would be horrendous if we didnt double wrap. we have an additional problem in that we live opposite a farm and are inundated with flies during the summer. Its a running battle

Nothing planned for today, using leftovers for meals. Its cooler at the moment and we had some rain yesterday but it remains very muggy

Hope you all have a happy cool day

Good Morning wolf - is this a regular thing, working at Oxfam on a Sunday? Have a good day anyway!

Morning Rosetta, yes I must admit we seem to have loads of flies this year, it's one of the things that I hate. We had dinner in the garden lastnight and got thru most of it before the flies started to become a real nuisance.....

Good morning, very humid here expected storms moving in.

We rarely have food waste, between the dogs and making stocks and soups the only thing that goes out is occasional tatty peelings

Morning DDIL - that's really good that you don't have much food waste. I do really try and keep it to a minimum but obv sometimes it's impossible.

We don't have food waste bins either, the council is giving them out next year but our bins our emptied every week.  I have big freezers so freeze the little food waste we do have and put it in the bin just before the bin arrive.

I have vivid childood memories of hot summers with bluebottles hurling themselves at the meat safe (we didn't have a fridge), maggots in the dustbin, milk in a bucket of cold water on the cellar steps.  No pork in hot weather because it would turn so quickly.

Usual routine for us today, so much fresher and cooler.  We've had a goodly bit of rain today, too
