In such an event a temporary shift might be possible, but it seems unlikely to happen.  Indeed many that fled the oppression may well want to return to fight for their nation.  Meanwhile, anyone wanting the nation to remain a nightmare Islamic state are going to be in the minority; those pining for a return the days of the Shah likely to be a sizable group. Any other alternative is unlikely to be sufficiently different as to cause a civil war and could be worked out.

Potentially some nations outside Iran with interests in influencing things may result in small groups getting sufficient resources to cause trouble, but I'd doubt they would get sufficient Iranian support to be considered that relevant.

It happens to be a perfectly reasonable assertion. Why would there be civil war and a failed state when so many are sick of the oppression since the departing lot took over ?

It's fairer to ask if the war/failed state prediction isn't a ridiculous assertion.

No doubt there'll be differences of opinion on the exact way forward but no reason to think it'd blow up, as the nation has experienced stability & freedom before so many know how to behave. There are always a limited number of hotheads who want to be a pain, but I'm sure some gaols with still be in one piece for accommodating them.

Because Iran was civilised in a western culture manner before things went awry, and so aren't the same as the other examples. Plus they have loads of citizens who fled abroad and would likely wish to return to their homeland to build it back up in the style to which they are accustomed.
