android or I phone?

Generally speaking, you can delete apps from the device's settings/apps screen.

Did your virus check find nothing ?

If you can't download & run malwarebytes try a websearch for an online malware detector.

Hi Thisoldbird, assuming your using an android system.....if you have a settings icon (looks like a cogwheel) tap on it, then scroll down the page to "apps", tap on it, then scroll down to the app you want to remove, tap on it, you should see an uninstall option, tap on it. Hope this works for you.

Android or Apple?

I don't get why people ask these questions then never come back and reply to follow ups.

People have other things to do, she only asked a couple of hours ago.

but if I asked I'd be there to respond to people trying to help me. Just seems rude to me.

As others have indicated, it's hard for us to point you to a way forward unless you tell us whether you're using a Windows PC, an Android device (such as an Android tablet or phone) or an Apple Device (such as an iPad or iPhone).

While we're waiting to hear from you though, I'll mention that if you want to track lightning in your area (or, indeed, anywhere else in the world), you can use this excellent website: https://www.lightningmaps.org/

I've asked things in the past knowing I'd not be near a PC for a few hours.  I respond to any responses when I return.

ToraToraTora,

Thats just ridiculous. People might get side tracked, a door bell might go, a phone might ring which can suddenly alter our lives. And maybe a sudden answer wasn't her priority.

I'm assuming she assumes that a possible answer can be here when she returns.

Its definitely not rude.

TORATORATORA, plenty folk ask for help and plenty folk come back with additional information.

You have absolutely no idea about what else is going on in THISOLDBIRD's life and she has more important things than your hurt feelings to consider.

Your describing her not responding as quickly as you would like as, "rude" is out of order and you should be ashamed of yourself.

THECORBYLOON,

Here here 👍

22:06 I just answered your USB query.

ToraToraTora,

Nothing wrong with that, just view this as a big room we are all sat in having debates, that's how I see it.

If someone has had to nip out for a pint of milk could be why they didn't reply for a while 😉

"help please" implies the problem is taking place so to ask the question with no supporting data and then burgering off and not replying even to say thanks to those that have tried to help is rude. End of.

I don't flipping believe it. I just lost a long post explaining my problem..

So sorry TTT..but I have had a visitor plus weary from the excessive heat today..I'm 87 yrs old I don't move as sharp as I once did. I'm trying to keep up with technology as we're all expected to know how to use a computer!!

I'm using an android phone. I meant to download the Lighning app Buencho recomnended..I can only assume my arthritic finger misjudged when clicking on the wrong one.

I can delete all apps but not this one. When I hold my finger on it, it dissapears.. the weather is permanently at the left of my home page..it says it's a USA Gov site..??

Ive completly lost my calender..with lots of information i need.

As well as several other apps..

I do thank anyone that's trying to help me.  I doubt I'll get back here tonight as I'm shattered.. many thanks in advance for any help I'll pick up tomorrow.  Thank you

You cannot do it from the normal home screen with the app itself. You need to go into Apps screen icon which will take you to a list of all the apps in a sort of matrix then find the app in there, lomg press it and delete:

Here's how to show the Apps button:

The Apps button will now appear on your home screen.

Tap and hold: on a blank area of your home screen.

Tap Settings.

Find and tap the switch next to "Show Apps screen button on Home screen".

Then you will have a button on your home screen that looks like a square of 9 dots, press that.

^^^ If, after reading TTT's post above, you're still struggling to get rid of the app, try starting your phone in Safe Mode and then deleting it.

The way to get into Safe Mode might vary across different makes and models of phones but here's how to do it on a Samsung Galaxy phone:
