I don't believe he thinks he lies, in fact he doesn't seem to agree that lying exists for him, since anything he says has to become the truth in his country. He's always had people to back him up on that, "alterntive facts", "alternative truths".

If he were ever to lie, it would be the biggest and bestest lie that has ever been seen.

I imagine he has a picture in his mind of holding the document up, above his head, rather than abiding by the written guide in word and deed.

That would seem like too much like actual work for the greatest living golf cheat and signer.

I don't think the written word is something he has much experience of (apart from tweets). He always has advisers to explain stuff, and they vie to be the last to speak to him before he speaks in public.

A daft old prat as the last president,a daft old prat as the new president. What chance do the Americans have?

Dementia, no doubt, but selective dementia.

I think Trump is a product of his upbringing – if he was with group of mates (down the pub), and he suggested possibly injecting people with disinfectant (to cure covid), or that the sound of windmills causes cancer, or announced on a regular basis that he was the world’s greatest blank (fill in the blank), they would just laugh at him.

But when he makes such statements surrounded by sycophants, they nod sagely.

Either Trump really believes the lies he is telling (and has confirmation from those around him), or he must think those around him are really stupid, believing his almost constant lying and exaggeration.

ynnafymmi, using a mild word like "daft" to infer the president's foolishness might imply there was something endearing in his behaviour. There is not.

The president is an immature man constantly seeking attention.

Clearly being the leader of the free world is not ticking that box for him, so he ups the ante by saying whatever ludicrous piffle comes into his empty head.

Because he is the president such nonsense gets conveyed to the world in the time it takes him to forget what he has just said.

He is an idiot in the wrong job, hopefully there are enough sane people around him to stop him doing any serious damage, although evidence so far seems to suggest otherwise, which is really scary.

Ah, the daily TDS thread.

He plays you lot like a fiddle.

Look, when Trump says something always look the other way to see what he is really doing.

Playing golf or dressing up.

It can't possibly be lying if it's on Truth Social ...
