Should be U.K not K.K.

sorry

Is it introduction, or reintroduction of native wild animals that were hunted or predated to extinction in the UK?

More context would be useful

There's talk of reintroducing wolves in the Highlands of Scotland in order to reduce the number of wild deer.

That might not be a bad idea if we could be sure the wolves didn't want to change their diet.

and become vegan Sandy?

No, no.  I was thinking of hikers trying to walk some of the more remote trails in the Highlands.

For example, me carrying my backpack would be an easier target than a monarch if the glen.

Barry yes I'm pretty sure that is what it is.  I saw a programme on it.

I think that Wolves are more likely to be at risk from humans than the other way around.

The thought of introducing wolves into the highlands of Scotland doesnt bear(or grizzly bears,for that matter) thinking about,the sheep farms up here would be decimated overnight.Why not introduce lions and tigers and poisonous snakes while we are at it?

@12.13.In what way,wolf?

A friend of ours has a government licence to cull deer which I think is a much safer option.  The introduction of dangerous animals into the wild doesn't bode well for wildlife or for people.  Farmers will be shooting them on sight - and for good reason.

sandy: "for example, me carrying my backpack would be an easier target than a monarch if the glen." - but no where near as tasty!

I think much consideration is needed before attempting duch a thing. Especially any creature with the potential to cause problems.  Don't want to have to hunt something to extinction a second time.

@12:30

I've been marinating myself in the finest of wines for a very long time. I fear a pack of wolves might find me very toothsome.

Would be a good idea if it significantly reduces the human population. Some lynx were set free (unauthorised) and nearly starved to death before being rescued & housed in a wildlife park.

PS - I don't think smaller mammals - beavers, otters, etc. would be much of a threat.

The mink need culling tho'

Lynx don't attack people. Mainly nocturnal and timid of people

Absolute lunacy.  Wolves died out because of hunting and also removal of their natural habitat.  Their natural habitat is now much much smaller and the human population significantly larger.  Will they stray into urban areas and start raiding bins like urban foxes who tend to have less fear of humans than rural foxes?  Of course they are much larger than a fox and so presumably could take a pet or even a child.  I do not know this, and I am not being sensationalist, but those are thoughts that occurred to me.

As ever with any of these "right-on" do-gooder ideas the impact is never properly thought out.

Yes, the obvious one is Wolves eating Sandy but even smaller animals could cause a problem, just look at what the Grey Squirrel has done (as just one example before the pile on starts from the usual).

We should leave well alone, stop interfering  and let Mother Nature take her course as she is much better at it than we are.

What next I wonder. Hairy Mamoths being reintroduced?
