Your Duvet - Do You Try & Wash It, Or Do You Replace It??

Stripped bed earlier to wash everything. Now pillows have pillowcase protectors on underneath the pillowcases, but duvet doesn't - the duvet cover just goes straight on. And I was thinking it really could do with a freshen up. So do you wash yours, if so how? As mine would never fit in my machine.

Or do you just replace your duvet every so often??

Take it to the laundrette 😊

I take it to professional cleaners.

Question Author

How often, and what do they charge?x

I take duvet for washing to Laundrette when I change it from Winter to Summer, etc.  £12.50 last time.

Question Author

That's not too bad. I need to buy a new summer duvet.

I take it a couple of times a year.  It costs about £45 I think.

When I had my 13.5 tog duvet I chucked it every year, I know used a cover less duvet and blankets and sheets and just wash the duvet and blankets every couple of months and the sheets every week

Question Author

That seems a lot naomi?

Yes I definitely need a lighter tog duvet DDIL.

It's a super king size.

Took my winter duvet to the laundrette about 3 weeks ago.  Prices have jumped up and it was £20 for a service wash.  Still worth it I reckon.

All. One are super king but they now fit in the machine, I have also never get warmer.

Our duvets are in covers and on top of sheets and under lightweight throws. They are all wool and go in the washing machine once or twice a year and get a good blow outside if the weather is nice when we change the cover.

They are several years old and look new

My Queen size is summer and winter that clips together. Each one easily fits in washer and washed twice yearly

lots of supermarkets and some petrol stations have big washing machines which duvets easily fit in for abot £8 and even have a tumble dryer for about £2

What a waste.

Used to wait for a 'two cleaned for lower price' offer once upon a time. Nowadays more likely to take them to the launderette in Spring to use their larger w/m & tumble drier.

I have a large capacity washing machine,  my double 10.5 tog goes in ok, I buy a new 13.5 every year  would cost the same to take it to a launderette if I include the cost of getting it dry.   I recycle the polyester filling ( after washing in a nylon bag) for cushions and soft toys

I used to take mine to a laundry service but they have closed to the public now, just commercial washes.

I haven't found a solution since my winter one will never fit in my machine.
Summer one OK.

The problem with the really big machines at garages etc is they are often used by people washing animal bedding, horse rugs, dogs beds etc and full of hairs.  Avoid those ones.

Stick it out on the line smow on a breezy day

That's a good point, DDIL.

Our local launderette has signs indicating which machines are for mucky overalls etc and as it is manned it is strictly adhered to.

The Co-Op has the outdoor washing machines and driers and I have seen them being used for horse blankets and dog beds.
